What mobile devices and tablets we collect
Recycle4Charity’s mobile device recycling service covers all business smartphones and tablets — Apple iPhones and iPads, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, Huawei, Sony, Motorola and all other makes. We accept devices in any condition: working, cracked screens, water-damaged or not powering on. Devices can be collected as a standalone load or alongside other IT equipment.
For individuals wanting to donate a personal phone to charity, see our recycle mobile phones for charity page.
How business mobile device recycling works
Every handset and tablet collected is individually logged by make, model and IMEI where accessible. Certified data wiping is performed on every device — a thorough process that overwrites all user data, app data and accounts, returning the device to a factory state with no recoverable data. A certificate of data destruction is available for all devices in the collection.
Working, refurbished devices go to digitally-excluded Londoners through Recycle4Charity’s partner network. Devices that cannot be refurbished enter licensed WEEE recycling channels.
What’s included:
– Free collection across Greater London (single or bulk loads)
– Asset-level logging of every device
– Certified data wiping — IMEI recorded per device
– Certificate of data destruction available on request
– Reuse where possible; licensed WEEE recycling for the rest
Data security and GDPR compliance for mobile devices
Business mobile phones and tablets are among the richest sources of personal and corporate data — emails, contacts, authentication apps, documents and corporate account credentials. Under UK GDPR (Data Protection Act 2018), all this data must be securely destroyed when the device is disposed of. A factory reset alone is not sufficient — data can be recovered from incompletely erased devices. Recycle4Charity’s certified wiping process satisfies ICO guidance on mobile device disposal and provides documented evidence for your compliance records. See our data destruction & security policy.
Fleet and bulk mobile recycling
We handle bulk mobile device recycling for businesses managing large volumes, including end-of-lease handset returns and device refresh cycles. Contact us with the number of devices and makes/models and we’ll confirm the best collection arrangement, including batch data destruction reporting for full fleets.
What happens to refurbished handsets
Working, wiped and tested handsets and tablets are given free to digitally-excluded Londoners through Recycle4Charity’s partner organisations. A refurbished phone can mean a refugee accessing translation services, an older person staying connected to family, or someone out of work accessing job boards and Universal Credit. See our impact. Devices that cannot be refurbished are processed through licensed WEEE recycling channels.
