Who we are
Recycle4Charity is a London-based Community Interest Company (CIC) — a type of social enterprise registered at Companies House, with its purpose and profits locked for community benefit. We are not a charity registered with the Charity Commission, but we operate with a clear social mission: everything we do is oriented towards reducing e-waste and closing the digital divide in London.
Our registered name is [full CIC name], Company No. [X], registered in England and Wales. ICO registration: [X]. We are based in [London area].
The problem we solve
The e-waste problem: The UK generates around 1.65 million tonnes of electronic waste a year. Business IT makes up a significant share — laptops, phones, servers and networking equipment being upgraded, relocated or disposed of at the end of their useful life. Much of this ends up in inadequate recycling streams or, worse, general waste, where hazardous materials leach into the environment and valuable metals are lost.
The digital exclusion problem: At the same time, millions of people in the UK — including in London — lack the device, internet access or digital skills to participate fully in modern life. Without a device, people cannot apply for jobs online, access healthcare appointments, manage benefits, support children’s education, or stay connected to family and community.
These two problems are the same problem viewed from opposite ends. Recycle4Charity closes the loop between them.
How the loop works
Step 1 — Collection: A London business needs to dispose of old IT. We collect it, free of charge, with a compliant, certified IT asset disposal service.
Step 2 — Data destruction: Every data-bearing device is securely wiped or physically destroyed. A certificate of data destruction is issued. GDPR obligations are met.
Step 3 — Assessment: Working devices are tested and prepared for refurbishment. Non-functional devices are prepared for responsible recycling.
Step 4 — Rehoming: Refurbished devices go free to digitally-excluded Londoners through our partner network of charities, schools and community organisations.
Step 5 — Recycling: Equipment that cannot be refurbished enters licensed WEEE recycling channels — nothing goes to landfill.
Step 6 — Impact report: The business receives an ESG impact report: devices rehomed, people connected, e-waste diverted, CO₂ saved — figures it can use in annual reports, tenders and sustainability disclosures.
How we’re funded
Recycle4Charity is primarily funded through the fees businesses pay for certified IT asset disposal services — the commercial service that enables the social mission. This earned-income model means the mission is sustainable and does not depend on grants. We also pursue grant funding and corporate partnerships to extend our reach and support more partner organisations.
Our values
Security first. Data destruction is not a side note — it is the foundation of everything we do. Businesses depend on us to destroy data properly, and trust, once lost, cannot be recovered.
Dignity for recipients. Refurbished devices are prepared to a high standard. Recipients receive something genuinely useful, not something stigmatising.
Real environmental impact. We measure what we divert and publish what we find. Reuse is always preferred over recycling because it saves more carbon and resource.
Transparency. We publish our impact methodology. We use placeholders rather than invented numbers. We are honest about what we are and what we are not.
