What printers and copiers we collect
Recycle4Charity’s printer recycling service covers all types of business printing and copying equipment: desktop inkjet and laser printers, network multifunction printers (MFPs), floor-standing photocopiers, wide-format plotters, receipt printers and label printers. We collect single units being replaced and large-scale printer fleet clear-outs. Printers can be collected alongside other office IT in one visit.
Do printers and copiers store data?
Yes — and this is a point many businesses overlook. Most modern photocopiers, MFPs and network printers contain a hard drive or internal memory that stores copies of every document scanned, printed, faxed or copied on the machine. Under UK GDPR (Data Protection Act 2018), this data must be securely destroyed before the device leaves your control. Simply unplugging and handing over a copier without wiping it is a potential data breach.
Recycle4Charity wipes or physically destroys the internal storage of every printer and copier as part of the standard collection process. A certificate of data destruction is available on request. For more on GDPR obligations and disposed devices, see our guide to GDPR and disposing of old IT equipment.
How printer and copier recycling works
- We collect your printers and copiers from your London office — including large, heavy floor-standing units
- Internal drives and memory are wiped or destroyed as standard
- Toner cartridges and consumables are removed and directed to specialist cartridge recycling
- Units in reusable condition are refurbished or redeployed; the rest enter licensed WEEE recycling
A WEEE disposal record is issued on completion. For large printer fleets, we provide an asset-level report.
WEEE compliance for printer disposal
Printers and copiers are WEEE — they must be disposed of through licensed treatment facilities under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013. Placing a printer in a skip or general waste is non-compliant and can expose your business to enforcement action by the Environment Agency. Our disposal record confirms WEEE-compliant handling for your audit file. See our WEEE & environmental policy.
What happens to old printers
Printers that can be refurbished are passed on through our partner network. Those that cannot be reused are broken down and processed through licensed WEEE recycling channels — toner, metals, plastics and electronic components are all handled separately and appropriately. Nothing goes to landfill.
