What computers and electronics we collect
Recycle4Charity’s computer recycling service in London covers all types of business computer equipment — desktop PCs, all-in-ones, laptops, Chromebooks, MacBooks, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers and other peripherals. We also take tablets and smartphones collected alongside computer equipment. All makes, all conditions — working, broken or end-of-life — collected in a single visit.
How computer recycling works
Every computer collected is individually logged at pick-up. Data-bearing items are processed first: drives are wiped using certified software or physically shredded, and you receive a certificate of data destruction for each device. The computer is then assessed for reuse or recycling. The whole process — collection, data destruction, reuse, recycling — is documented and reported back to you.
Steps in brief:
– Free collection from your London office
– Every item logged at asset level
– Certified data destruction on all drives
– Working computers refurbished and rehomed; others responsibly recycled
– Certificate of data destruction and WEEE disposal record issued
Security and GDPR compliance for computer disposal
When a business computer is disposed of, UK GDPR (Data Protection Act 2018) requires that all personal and business data on it is permanently destroyed. Simply formatting a hard drive or running a factory reset is not sufficient — data can be recovered from incompletely wiped drives. Recycle4Charity’s certified data destruction process ensures data is irretrievably removed and evidenced, with a certificate for your compliance records. Read our guide to how to dispose of old computers securely.
For electronics that are classed as WEEE, disposal must also comply with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013. Our documentation covers both data destruction and WEEE compliance in one collection.
What happens to your old computers
Working computers — whatever brand, including MacBooks, Chromebooks, Dells and Lenovos — are refurbished and given free to digitally-excluded Londoners: low-income families, refugees, isolated older people and young people who need a device for education or work. This is the measurable social impact of your decision to recycle with Recycle4Charity rather than simply dispose.
Computers that cannot be refurbished are broken down into their components and processed through licensed WEEE recycling channels — none goes to landfill or general waste.
