WEEE & Environmental Policy

This page sets out Recycle4Charity's approach to the handling of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) — our licensed disposal routes, our reuse-first approach, and the documentation provided to clients. Our process satisfies the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013.

Our reuse-first approach

Recycle4Charity prioritises reuse over recycling. Every device collected is assessed for refurbishment potential. Working devices — laptops, tablets, phones, computers — are securely wiped, refurbished and given free to digitally-excluded Londoners through our partner organisations. Reuse keeps devices in productive use longer, avoids the carbon cost of manufacturing replacements, and delivers greater environmental benefit than recycling alone.

WEEE Regulations 2013 compliance

All WEEE collected by Recycle4Charity is directed to licensed authorised treatment facilities (ATFs) operating under the WEEE Regulations 2013. We maintain records of disposal routes by equipment category and weight. Clients receive a WEEE disposal record on completion of every collection, confirming that their equipment was handled through licensed, documented channels.

Hazardous materials handling

Electronic equipment contains hazardous materials — mercury in fluorescent backlights, lead in older CRT glass, and various chemical compounds in batteries and circuit boards. Our licensed treatment partners handle these materials in accordance with the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 and applicable Environment Agency guidance, ensuring safe treatment and preventing environmental contamination.

No landfill — guaranteed

Recycle4Charity operates a strict landfill-zero policy. Equipment that cannot be refurbished is directed to licensed WEEE recycling — materials are separated and recovered, and nothing enters general waste or landfill. See our impact figures for e-waste diverted and CO2 savings from device reuse.
